Charge of the Light Brigade, the
an unsuccessful attack made by the British cavalry (=soldiers riding horses) during the Crimean War. Many British soldiers were killed because they were ordered to ride into a valley which was full of Russian soldiers with heavy guns. Tennyson describes this battle in his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade,
