(1894-1972) the British king in 1936. He was forced to abdicate (=give up being king) because he wanted to marry Wallis Simpson, an American woman who had been married before. This event is known as 'the Abdication '. After he abdicated, he was given the title "Duke of Windsor", and he and his wife lived abroad for the rest of their lives.
