Hong Kong
Hong Kong
an area on the south coast of China, consisting of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories and 235 outlying islands. Population: 6,855,000 (2004). Hong Kong was a British colony from 1842 to 1997, when it became the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China. Although it is part of China, it has its own government and financial system, and is an important financial and trade centre.
