Long, Huey Pierce
(1893-1935) a US politician in the Democratic Party who was governor of Louisiana from 1928-31, and a US senator from 1930. He was called the 'Kingfish' and was popular especially with poorer people because of his plans for social and economic changes that would help the poor. But he used his position to keep complete political control in Louisiana, and he was shot and killed in 1935.
