Runyon, Damon
(1884-1946) a US writer of humorous short stories about gangsters (=members of violent criminal groups) and people who worked on Broadway in New York City. His characters use a lot of slang and unusual expressions. His most famous collection of stories, Guys and Dolls, was later made into a successful musical show.
