(1864-1949) a German composer whose best-known works are his symphonic poems, his operas, especially Der Rosenkavalier (1911), and his Four Last Songs (1948). One of his symphonic poems, Also sprach Zarathustra (1895) was used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
