Trimble, David
(1944- ) a British politician who is leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, a political party in Northern Ireland which is supported mostly by Protestants and believes strongly that Northern Ireland should remain part of the UK. He had an important part in attempts to bring peace to Northern Ireland. In 1998 he became First Minister in the new Northern Ireland assembly (parliament) and shared the Nobel Prize for peace with John Hume.
