Wallace, George
(1919-98) a US politician in the Democratic Party who was Governor of Alabama for most of the period between 1963 and 1987. Many people consider him to be racist because he supported segregation. He was shot in 1972, when he was trying to be chosen to represent the Democratic Party in the election for President, and after that he had to use a wheelchair.
