(1926-87) a US artist who had an important influence on modern art and music, especially in the 1960s. He is famous for his pictures in the pop art style, which were of ordinary objects such as the 'Campbell's Soup Can', or of famous people such as MarilynMonroe. He also made films such as 'The Chelsea Girls' (1966) and 'Trash' (1970). His films, which usually dealt with sex and drugs, did not try to tell stories and the actors often invented their words as they spoke.
