Bastille, the

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishBastille, thethe BastilleBas‧tille, the /bæˈstiːl/  an old prison in Paris, attacked and destroyed on 14 July 1789 during the French revolution. This date is now celebrated each year as a French national holiday (Bastille Day) The storming of the Bastille really marked the beginning of the French Revolution.
