From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishBillingsgateBil‧lings‧gate /ˈbɪlɪŋzɡeɪt/  a large fish market in east London. The word ‘Billingsgate’ was also formerly used to mean swearing and offensive language, because the people who worked in the market were known for this.
