From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishYeltsin, BorisBoris YeltsinYelt‧sin, Bor‧is /ˈjeltsɪn, ˈbɒrɪs $ ˈbɔː-/  (1931–2007) a Russian politician who became president of Russia in 1991. Bad economic conditions and the growing crime problem in Russia made him unpopular with many, but he was elected president again in 1996. He had very serious health problems, and was sometimes criticized for drinking too much alcohol.
