From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishCroesusCroe‧sus /ˈkriːsəs/  (?–546 BC) a king of Lydia in Asia Minor, known for being very rich. People sometimes say that someone is ‘as rich as Croesus’ to mean that they are extremely rich.
