From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishDaedalusDae‧da‧lus /ˈdiːdəl-əs $ ˈded-/  in ancient Greek stories, an inventor who designed the labyrinth on the island of crete, where the King of Crete kept the minotaur. He later escaped from Crete with his son icarus, by flying away using wings made of feathers and wax.
