Data Protection Act, thethe Data Protection ActˌData Proˈtection Act, the 🔊 🔊 a British law that was introduced in 1984 and then rewritten in 1998. It provides rules about the way in which personal information can be stored on computer by the government, companies, and other organizations. It gives legal rights to people in order to prevent this information from being wrongly used, and also allows people to see the information that is held about them.
