Dead Sea Scrolls, the

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishDead Sea Scrolls, thethe Dead Sea ScrollsˌDead Sea ˈScrolls, the 🔊 🔊 a collection of ancient Jewish scrolls (=rolls of paper containing writing) from around the time of Christ. They contain the oldest copies of parts of the Old Testament of the Bible, and were found near the Dead Sea between 1947 and 1956.
