Devil's Island

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishDevil's IslandˌDevil's ˈIsland  an island near the coast of French Guiana in South America, which was used as a prison by France until 1938. Prisoners there lived in very bad conditions. One of the most famous prisoners was Alfred dreyfus.
