From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishSpock, Dr BenjaminDr Benjamin SpockSpock, Dr Ben‧ja‧min /spɒk $ spɑːk, ˈbendʒəmɪn/ 🔊 🔊 (1903–1998) a US doctor who wrote books giving advice on how parents should take care of their children, including The Common Sense Book of Baby and Childcare (1946), which suggested that parents should allow their children more freedom than was fashionable at the time, and which had a great influence on parents in the US and UK.
