From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishEgyptE‧gypt /ˈiːdʒɪpt/  a country in northeast Africa, next to the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Population: 85,294,388 (2014). Capital: Cairo. Ancient Egypt was a powerful and wealthy country, with advanced farming methods and a highly developed religion, political organization, and writing system. The ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids, and large decorated graves under the ground for important people.
