Kazan, Elia

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishKazan, EliaElia KazanKa‧zan, E‧lia /kəˈzɑːn, ˈiːljə/  (1909–2003) a US film and theatre director, who helped to start the Actors' Studio in New York City. He is known as the director of plays such as death of a salesman (1949), and of films such as A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) and On the Waterfront (1954).
