From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishDickinson, EmilyEmily DickinsonDickinson, Em‧i‧ly /ˈeməli/  (1830–86) a US poet whose clever and original work is still very popular. She is sometimes called ‘the Belle of Amherst’, and is known for being a recluse (=someone who lives alone and avoids other people) for the last 25 years of her life.
