Falklands, the

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishFalklands, thethe FalklandsFalk‧lands, the /ˈfɔːlkləndz $ ˈfɔːk-/ (also the Falkland Islands) 🔊 🔊 a group of islands, under British control, in the southwest Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Argentina. Many Argentinians believe that the islands belong to Argentina, and call them the Malvinas.
