Gordon, General Charles

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishGordon, General CharlesGeneral Charles GordonGor‧don, General Charles /ˈɡɔːdn $ ˈɡɔːr-/  (1833–85) a British military leader who fought in the crimean war and then in China. He is best known for leading the British forces in the siege of khartoum, in Sudan, where he was killed by the enemy.
