From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishFord, GeraldGerald FordFord, Ger‧ald /ˈdʒerəld/  (1913–2006) a US politician in the Republican Party who was president of the US from 1974 to 1977. He became president after Richard Nixon was forced to resign (=leave his job) because of Watergate.
