From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishGreenlandGreen‧land /ˈɡriːnlənd, -lænd/  a large island in the North Atlantic Ocean, near northeast Canada. Population: 57,714 (2007). Capital: Nuuk. Greenland belongs to Denmark, but has its own government. Nearly all of the island is covered by ice.
