From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishGreensleevesGreen‧sleeves /ˈɡriːnsliːvz/ 🔊 🔊 an English song from the end of the 16th century, which most people in the UK and US know. Some people believe it was written by King Henry VIII. In the UK it is often played by travelling ice-cream vans to let people know that the van has arrived in their street.
