From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishHannibalHan‧ni‧bal /ˈhænəbəl/  (247–183 BC) a general who led the army of Carthage in its war against the Romans between 218 and 201 BC. Hannibal is known especially for having crossed the Alps into Italy with a large army and 37 elephants.
