From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishHeidiHei‧di /ˈhaɪdi/  a little girl who is the main character in the children's book Heidi by the Swiss writer Johanna Spyri (1827–1901). Several films have been made of the story, including a famous one in 1937 in which Shirley Temple plays the part of Heidi.
