Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishHer Majesty's Revenue and CustomsHer ˌMajesty's ˌRevenue and ˈCustoms (abbrev. HMRC)  the UK government department that is responsible for collecting income tax, VAT, and customs duties (customs duty), as well as for paying tax credits. The department was formed in 2005 when the Inland Revenue and Her Majesty's Customs and Excise joined together.
