From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishIELTSIELTS /ˈaɪelts/ noun [uncountable] trademark  (International English Language Testing System) a test for people whose first language is not English that shows how good their English is. The test is taken by people who want to study, work, or live in an English-speaking country. People who take the test do not have to get a certain score in order to pass it. Instead, they are given a grade from 0 to 9.
