From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishWatt, JamesJames WattWatt, James  (1736–1819) a British engineer who made important improvements to the steam engine, although he did not actually invent it, as some people wrongly believe. The measure of electrical power, the watt, is named after him.
