From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishJohn LewisˌJohn ˈLewis trademark  a large British department store in many UK cities, selling a variety of products, especially articles for the home, such as electrical goods, furniture, and kitchen equipment. The company is known for saying that it is ‘never knowingly undersold’, by which it means that if you can find any of its products at a cheaper price in another shop, it will sell you that product at the cheaper price. It is also known for being a partnership, meaning that the business is owned by the people who work in it and they all share in its profits.
