From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishSteinbeck, JohnJohn SteinbeckStein‧beck, John /ˈstaɪnbek/  (1902–68) a US writer whose novels, including The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and Of Mice and Men show great sympathy for poor people and their problems. He is one of the most popular and admired US writers of the 20th century, and he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962.
