Martello tower

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishMartello towerMar‧tel‧lo tow‧er /mɑːˌteləʊ ˈtaʊə $ mɑːrˌteloʊ ˈtaʊər/ noun  a circular tower built on the coast to defend Britain against enemy attack during the wars against Napoleon. Some can still be seen on the south coast of England and in Jersey.
