From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishKing, MervynMervyn KingKing, Mer‧vyn /ˈmɜːvɪn $ ˈmɜːr-/  (1948-) an English economist who became governor of the Bank of England in 2003 and chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee in 1997. The Monetary Policy Committee is responsible for setting the official UK interest rate.
