From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishOndaatje, MichaelMichael OndaatjeOn‧daat‧je, Michael /ɒnˈdɑːtjə $ ɔːn-/  (1943–) a Canadian writer, born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), whose books include The English Patient, which won the Booker Prize in 1992, and In the Skin of a Lion. The English Patient was made into a film, which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1996.
