From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishNoahNo‧ah /ˈnəʊə/  in the Old Testament of the Bible, a man chosen by God to build an ark (=a large boat) so that he could save his family and two of every kind of animal that lived on the Earth from the terrible flood which covered the Earth. There are many songs and stories about Noah’s ark, which describe how the animals were chosen, and how they went into the ark ‘two by two’.
