From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishOftelOf‧tel /ˈɒftel $ ˈɔːf-/ (also Office of Telecommunications)  the former British government organization whose job was to make sure that the UK telephone industry treated its customers fairly and did not charge unfair prices. It was replaced in 2003 by Ofcom.
