Order of the Garter, the

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishOrder of the Garter, thethe Order of the GarterˌOrder of the ˈGarter, the  a group of 24 British men who have been given a special title of honour for their achievements. Members of the Order of the Garter have the title ‘Sir’, and, together with the Order of the Thistle, it is the highest level of knighthood.
