present participleˌpresent ˈparticiple ●●○ noun [countable] technical  SLGa participle that is formed in English by adding ‘ing’ to the verb, as in ‘sleeping’. It can be used in compound forms of the verb to show continuous tenses, as in ‘she’s sleeping’, or as an adjective, as in ‘the sleeping child’.
