Restoration comedy

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishRestoration comedyˌRestoration ˈcomedy noun [C;U]  a humorous type of play that was popular in England during the time of the restoration, which includes a lot of satire and jokes about people's social and sexual behaviour. Plays by Oliver Goldsmith and William Congreve are typical examples of Restoration comedy.
