Ballasteros, Seve

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishBallasteros, SeveSeve BallasterosBal‧la‧ste‧ros, Sev‧e /bæləˈstɪərɒs, ˈsevi $ ˌbɑːləˈstɪroʊs/   (1957-2011) a Spanish golfer who won the Open Championship three times (1979,1984, and 1988), and the Masters Tournament twice (1980,1983). As both player and captain, he also helped the European team to win the Ryder Cup five times (between 1985 and 1997). He was popular with the public and was known for attempting to play very difficult shots. He died of brain cancer.
