From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishSouthwarkSouth‧wark /ˈsʌθək $ -ərk/  a borough of London, south of the River Thames, known especially for its cathedral (=a large impressive church). The Globe Theatre, where Shakespeare's plays were first performed, is in Southwark.
