From Longman Business DictionaryStandard Industrial ClassificationˌStandard Inˌdustrial Classifiˈcation written abbreviation SIC nounECONOMICS a system developed in the US in the 1930s in which each industry has a number, used to describe which group a company belongs to. It was replaced in 1997 by the North American Industry Classification System.
