zitherzith‧er /ˈzɪðə $ -ər/ noun [countable]  APMa musical instrument from Eastern Europe that consists of a flat box with strings stretched across it. You play it by pulling the strings with your fingers or a plectrum (=small piece of plastic, metal etc).
